80 Kg Marijuana Seized in Andhra, 2 Held
The marijuana was concealed inside a secret cavity created below the original luggage compartment of the vehicle
Nathavalasa: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Thursday seized 80 kg of marijuana worth Rs 16 lakh here in Vizianagaram district and arrested two persons. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers from Visakhapatnam Regional Unit intercepted a vehicle with two people coming from Odisha and heading towards Keralam via National Highway 16 (Kolkata-Chennai) near Nathavalasa Toll plaza, said an official release from the agency.
"During systematic examination of the truck, dry green leafy substance which contained flowering tops and seeds and emitted a distinct odour and displayed physical characteristics of cannabis, also known as Ganja, was recovered," it said.
The marijuana was concealed inside a secret cavity created below the original luggage compartment of the vehicle, the release added.
DRI arrested the duo under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and began probe to identify the source and network of this racket.
