1,037 Nominations Filed In Prakasam District

NELLORE: A total of 1,037 nominations were filed for mayor/chairperson and ward member posts in Ongole Municipal Corporation and Addanki, Chimakurthy and Darsi municipalities, with the process concluding peacefully on Sunday, Prakasam collector P. Raja Babu and SP V. Harshavardhan Raju said.
Of the total, 71 nominations were received for mayor/chairperson posts and 966 for ward member posts. Ongole recorded the highest number of nominations for the mayor’s post at 32, followed by Addanki and Chimakurthy with 17 each and Darsi with five.
For ward member posts, Ongole received 528 nominations, Addanki 196, Chimakurthy 172 and Darsi 70. The collector said scrutiny would be held on Monday, while the deadline for withdrawal was October 21. The final list of candidates would be announced that evening.
The SP said the process remained peaceful across the district except for an incident in Darsi, where a sub-inspector was injured during a confrontation while police were regulating crowds at the nomination centre. Police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to restore order. He said security arrangements were in place for candidates and additional measures would be taken during polling and counting to ensure peaceful elections.
