Odisha: Woman Allegedly Gang-raped In Abandoned Guest House

Kalinganagar (Odisha): A woman from the Kalinganagar area in Odisha’s Jajpur district was allegedly gang-raped after being lured to an abandoned guest house on the pretext that her husband had met with an accident, police said.

According to the complaint, the victim’s parental home is under Sukinda police station limits. As her relationship with her husband was reportedly strained, she had been staying at her sister’s house in the Kalinganagar area. Her husband worked at a hotel in Jajpur Road, where he was known to one of the accused, identified as Kahu Sahu, who worked as a cook there.

On September 1 afternoon, Kahu allegedly called the woman and told her that her husband had met with an accident at Chandikhole. He asked her to come there immediately. Believing him, the woman travelled by bus and reached Chandikhole at around 6 pm.

Kahu and another youth allegedly picked her up from there and took her to an abandoned guest house near Chandi Mandir. The two accused were allegedly consuming alcohol at the spot. Kahu then allegedly raped the woman. When she resisted, he reportedly assaulted her before the two men allegedly gang-raped her.

The accused allegedly left the woman unconscious on the roadside and fled. After she regained consciousness, she informed a relative about the incident. The relative reached Chandikhole, rescued her and took her to Sukinda.

The woman subsequently lodged a complaint at Kalinganagar police station. Police initially allegedly refused to register the case, but later registered a case under Sections 70(1), 115(2) and 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have reportedly detained both accused and are questioning them.

Reports last received said police had also begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime.
