West Bengal: Madan Hints At Exiting Politics
“This was the first time I, as a four-time MLA, could not visit those who elected me": Mr Mitra
KOLKATA: In an explosive outburst, former West Bengal minister and four-time MLA Madan Mitra, who now belongs to Democratic Trinamul Congress, has hinted at his exit from politics in disgust after claiming that he never saw “so much tears” in people's eyes during Durga Puja in a veiled reference to untoward incidents of anarchy and tragedy amidst the festival.
He also alleged that murderers roamed freely on the streets with arms on the festive days so that he could not visit his constituency Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas for the first time. Mr Mitra further expressed his hate towards politics. “So many tears have never rolled out from people's eyes during puja since I started knowing politics,” he claimed.
Mr Mitra argued, “This was the first time I, as a four-time MLA, could not visit those who elected me. Killers are roaming openly with arms at a time when chief minister Suvendu Adhikari has been so active, working all out for the people. But I couldn't do my bit despite being one of the 294 MLAs. People are in danger and crying. Why do I have to celebrate Bijoya in tears?”
Asked about his future, he pointed out, “I'm confused. But I can assure that I will not try not to do anything that pains people. The only path for this is leaving politics. I have developed hatred towards politics. As a politician, I hate politics and myself too for being into it because I feel I'm betraying those who have elected me.”
Mr Mitra however added that he would greet the CM and his predecessor, Mamata Banerjee, on the occasion of Bijoya Dashami.
