Tawang: The Union tourism ministry will organise the three-day International Tourism Mart (ITM) in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, from Thursday to showcase the tourism potential of the Northeast and attract domestic and international visitors.

The 14th edition of the event, scheduled from October 29 to 31, marks its return to Tawang after 13 years. The town last hosted the second edition in 2013, while the previous mart was held in Gangtok in November 2025.

Union tourism and culture minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, minister of state for tourism Suresh Gopi and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu will attend the inaugural programme on October 29.

The inauguration will include the opening of the North East Bazaar and cultural performances showcasing the region's traditions.

More than 200 participants, including domestic and international buyers and sellers, are expected to attend. These include 43 international buyers from 22 countries.

The event will bring together tourism service providers and sellers from the eight northeastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura — to promote regional tourism products and business partnerships.

The states will present their tourism attractions, experiences and combined travel circuits to potential buyers.

Business-to-business meetings on October 30 will facilitate interactions between domestic and international buyers and tourism operators.

Technical sessions will focus on developing the live events and concert economy in the Northeast and improving tourist access to protected and restricted areas.

Royal Enfield will present opportunities for experience-based tourism through immersive journeys across the region.

A regional meeting of tourism ministers from the northeastern states will also be held on October 30 under the chairmanship of Shekhawat.

The annual tourism mart is a flagship initiative of the ministry aimed at promoting the Northeast as a tourism destination in domestic and international markets.
