Remote Sensing Tech Deployed To Trace Missing Lakshadweep Policemen

Kavaratti: As the search for two Lakshadweep policemen missing after a patrol boat accident near the uninhabited Suheli Island entered its 14th day on Monday, authorities are deploying remote sensing technology as part of the search operations at sea. Suheli Island is a remote, oval-shaped coral atoll in Lakshadweep, located about 47 km southwest of the UT 's capital city of Kavaratti.
Nabeel K M, Hidayathulla K C and Ummer went missing after their patrol boat met with an accident due to high current on August 11 as part of routine patrol duty. The officers initially managed to hold on to rocks, but a powerful wave separated them. One policeman was carried towards the island and managed to reach shore, while Nabeel and Hidayathulla remain missing.
A senior Lakshadweep Administration official on Sunday said police personnel, boats and a specialised team equipped with remote sensing technology and other advanced equipment have been deployed.
The three officers had been posted at the Suheli Island Police Outpost on August 1 for a 20-day assignment. As the island has no regular boat service, they were flown there by helicopter and were the only policemen stationed at the outpost, reports state.
However, no breakthrough has been reported so far. The families of the missing policemen have continued to seek an escalation of the search operation.
