Telangana BJP chief K Laxman is on hunger strike at Nims

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president K. Laxman is continuing his hunger strike at the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) where he was shifted after arrest when he staged an indefinite hunger strike at the party office in Nampally.

Dr Laxman refused treatment at the hospital, saying he was forcibly brought there by the police.

He called upon the BJP cadre to besiege Pragathi Bhavan, the official residence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Tuesday. He also gave a call for a state bandh on May 2.

Dr Laxman demanded the dismissal of education minister G. Jagadish Reddy and action against Globarena Techonologies. He demanded a judicial enquiry on the inter results controversy.

BJP national general secretary Muralidhar Rao said they would intensify the protests in the coming days if their demands were not met. The BJP leader said Mr Chandrasekhar Rao should take responsibility for the suicide of students.

BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav said a judicial inquiry should be conducted with a sitting High Court judge on the issue. He said that BJP president Amit Shah had directed the Telangana party unit to fight on the issue till justice is done to the students.

AP BJP president Kanna Lakshminar-ayana who came to Hyderabad to extend solidarity to his Telangana counterparts’ hunger strike said that the chief ministers of the two Telugu states were acting in the same way in resolving public problems. He criticised both as being busy with event management.
