Hyderabad: The agitation by Opposition parties against the state government for its failure in conducting the Intermediate exams properly has entered its tenth day. Some 23 students committed suicide when the results, some of them said to be erroneous, showed they had failed.

On Monday, Opposition parties demanded the dismissal of education minister G. Jagadish Reddy.

TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Telangana Jana Sena president M. Kodandaram, Communist Party of India state secretary Chada Venkata Reddy, Telangana Telugu Desam president L. Ramana and others condemned the police for putting opposition leaders under house arrest.

Opposition parties also criticised former IT minister and TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for saying on Twitter that he knew nothing about Globarena, the company being held responsible for the goof-up in the exam results.

AICC secretary and former MP, V Hanumantha Rao challenged Mr Rama Rao to swear before the goddesses of the Peddamma temple that he knows nothing about the company. He said he would be waiting there at 12 noon to see if Mr Rama Rao came to the temple.

Senior Congress politician J. Geetha Reddy said that the all-party dharna or sit-in at the TS Board of Intermediate Education office was a success. She said that there is no democracy in the state. The negligence of the state government caused the exam results fiasco, she alleged.

The Kadiam Srihari committee had held that Globarena did not have the capacity to handle the Intermediate results and data collection, so why did the state government give this job to the company, Ms Reddy asked.

She has demanded the dismissal of the education minister, a criminal case to be booked against Globarena, and Rs 50 lakh ex gratia to be paid to each family of the students who committed suicide.

Former Congress minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir was arrested by the Jubilee Hills police early this morning and prevented from participating in the dharna at the Intermediate Board office. He too demanded action against the education minister, the secretary of the Intermediate Board Ashok and Globarena, and police cases and arrests of all concerned persons.
