The media report on the issue was also not factually correct as the decision was not to release the prisoners but to give them remission.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed displeasure over the governor issuing a press release about his decision to seek clarifications from the government over the remission of 1850 prisoners.

There was no previous precedence of the governor issuing a press release while seeking the clarification from the government, the chief minister told reporters here on Wednesday.

The recommendation to release convicts was taken by the UDF government. The media report on the issue was also not factually correct as the decision was not to release the prisoners but to give them remission.

The prisoners included in the list were selected on the basis of the criteria fixed by a committee. Others were not  included  and the news to  the contrary was not correct, Mr Vijayan said.

He said t the CPI has the right to criticise the government even while being a part of the government. However, there was no substance to the allegation that governance was at a standstill.

Referring to the attack on the actress, he said the police had  taken effective measures to nab the culprits. The prime accused in the abduction will be held  soon. The state government viewed the incident  seriously, irrespective of whether  any influential persons were involved in it. “We will ensure that all those responsible for the attack are arrested,” he said

He dismissed the allegations against the children of party leaders and regretted that  anybody could say anything now. Mr Vijayan reiterated his commitment to introduce the Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) and said action will be taken against officials of the secretariat who joined the strike while on duty.
