Four BJP Workers Killed After Being Run Over by Train in Murshidabad
Victims were on their way to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting in Nadia; dense fog suspected to have caused poor visibility
Berhampore: Four BJP workers from Murshidabad district were run over and killed by a speeding train while on their way to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting at Taherpur in Nadia district on Saturday morning.
According to railway police, the incident occurred around 5.15 am between Badkulla and Taherpur railway stations. The victims were part of a group of BJP workers travelling in buses to attend the meeting. While en route, five of them reportedly went onto the railway track for morning nature’s call, when a Krishnanagar local train ran over them.
Three BJP workers died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at a hospital. One more person sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Ramprasad Ghosh (74), Muktipada Sutradhar (55), Gopinath Das (35), and Bhairab Ghosh (47), all residents of Sabaldaha and Masaodda villages under Burwan police station limits. The injured has been identified as Bikash Ghosh.
Condoling the deaths, BJP Murshidabad district president Moloy Mahajan termed it a “bizarre rail accident” and expressed grief over the loss of party workers. Railway officials said poor visibility due to dense fog in the early morning hours may have contributed to the accident.
