Chennai: DMK president M. K. Stalin said he felt ashamed of visiting Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's house pleading for space to eternally lay the party’s late president M. Karunanidhi to rest on the Marina.

“I feel ashamed of going to (Chief Minister) Edappadi Palaniswami’s house. But I had to do it for our Kalaignar. I pleaded with him (Mr. Palaniswami) holding his hands, to provide space on the Marina. But we got justice from the court. The court granted permission to lay the leader to rest on the Marina besides Anna’s samadhi,” Stalin said while winding up his poll campaign at Tiruvarur. The Kalaignar's memorial, he said, has now become a temple drawing thousands of ardent 'devotees' daily.

Stalin had begun his election tour on March 20 from Thiruvarur, the constituency that was represented by his father and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi.

“He (Karunanidhi) is not just a leader of our party but a national leader who had raised statues and memorials for many leaders. Don’t think I am speaking like his son. I am not his only son. All of you who have come here are his children. We are all Kalaignar’s children. I am speaking with that feelings,” he said turning emotional.

He alleged the AIADMK and BJP governments did precious little for the people and hence "could not spell out" any achievements. Stalin expressed confidence that the DMK and Congress will come to power in Tamil Nadu and the Centre respectively. DMK is banking on the by-elections to capture power in the State
