With 90% elected reps in urban and rural local bodies in the TRS kitty, the ruling party is aiming for a clean sweep in MLC elections
Hyderabad: With over 90 per cent elected representatives in urban and rural local bodies across the state already in the TRS kitty, the ruling party is aiming for a clean sweep in MLC elections on December 10.
The polling on Friday involves six seats under local bodies quota. Elected representatives in local bodies, namely MPTCs, ZPTCs, ward members, councilors and corporators are eligible to vote.
The TRS is facing the Congress for two seats in Khammam and Medak districts and independent candidates for four seats in Karimnagar (two), Nalgonda and Adilabad districts.
The Election Commission has issued notification for elections to 12 MLC seats under local bodies quota. TRS has already bagged six seats unanimously. TRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday held a meeting with the party's elected representatives of local bodies and discussed with them the party's strategy on the day of polling.
Party sources said Rama Rao warned the TRS local bodies representatives of severe consequences if they resorted to cross-voting or sabotage the party's prospects in MLC polls. He is expected to hold another round of meeting with local bodies representatives on Thursday.
Ministers and TRS MLAs in respective districts who were appointed as in-charges for MLC polls have shifted the party's local bodies representatives to Hyderabad from the camps set up Goa, Mysuru, Bengaluru etc – all with a view to preventing chances of horse-trading by rival candidates and parties.
They were made to camp in other states for the past ten days before being shifted to Hyderabad on Wednesday.
They will have to remain in special accommodations in Hyderabad until December 10 morning and will be shifted straight to the polling booths on December 10 to cast their votes.
