VIJAYAWADA: A petition has been filed in Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking quashing of G.O. No. 57 that appointed Justice V. Kanagaraj, retired judge of Madras High Court, as chairman of AP State Police Complaints Authority.
High Court advocate Para Kishore filed the petition listing as respondents principal secretary (Home), AP Police Complaints Authority chairman and Justice Kanagaraj in his individual capacity.

The petitioner contended that the appointment of Justice Kanagaraj is against the spirit of Supreme Court judgement in Prakash Singh case.

Though there are clear norms that only a person up to the age of 65 years can serve as chairman, the government appointed Justice Kanagaraj, who is aged 78 years.
