PM Modi Bats For BJP Hat-Trick In Assam

Modi flags conspiracy of Congress to protect infiltrators.

Guwahati : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a frontal attack against the opposition Congress party accusing them of being the patron of infiltrators while asserting that the BJP is set to make a hat-trick by winning the ensuing assembly polls in Assam.

Addressing two election rallies first at Gogamukh and second at Behali, Mr Modi warned that if Congress party is voted to power in Assam, they will bring in a law to protect infiltrators, which the BJP and its allies will not allow.

Accusing that the Congress intends to turn the majority community into a minority and create a permanent vote bank of infiltrators, the Prime Minister reminded that before the BJP came to power in 2014, the Congress had tried to bring in a law in the parliament through which they wanted to held the majority community responsible for every communal riot but the NDA opposed it and failed that move.

Asserting that infiltrators are a threat to the existence and the identity of the state’s people, Mr Modi reiterated, “Congress leaders are openly saying that they will bring a new law in Assam to protect the infiltrators and are openly supporting them.”

Equating the Congress party with the Muslim League, Mr Modi said, “The Congress party was trying to divide the country. They have also stabbed the Constitution prepared by Babasaheb Ambedkar. They can go to any extent to grab power in the state.”

Targeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi at national level and Gaurav Gogoi at the state, the Prime Minister said, “For the Congress, there are two families -one in Delhi and another in Assam, and their priority is the interest of their families and not that of the people.”

Announcing that if the BJP returns to power, it will "implement the Uniform Civil Code and safeguard tribals under the Sixth schedule to protect Assam's identity, Mr Modi said, “The BJP's 10-year rule heralded a new dawn of 'seva' (service) and 'sushasan' (good governance) in Assam.”

Pointing out the huge turnout of people even after rain, Mr Modi said it reflects your faith in a double-engine government.

He said that Assam has witnessed remarkable development over the last ten years and expressed confidence that the people of the state are set to bless the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) once again.

The Prime Minister reiterated that this election would shape the vision of a developed India. “This time the election is to be made by Viksit Bharat (Developed India)... The BJP will form the government again in Assam and make a hat-trick,” he added.

He also flagged the key welfare measures promised in the BJP manifesto for the Assembly polls. While asserting that 22 lakh poor families have got pucca houses in Assam so far, he said that over 15 lakh families in Assam would benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and assured that every family that is yet to receive a pucca house will be covered. He added that poor families will get "free education from KG to PG", emphasising a significant push towards educational upliftment.

He also highlighted women-centric welfare efforts. Mr Modi said that nearly 3 lakh women in Assam have already become “Lakhpati Baideo” through the Lakhpati Didi scheme. He announced that the NDA aims to expand this to 40 lakh women in the coming years. He also mentioned that the Orunodoi scheme will receive further enhancements to ensure wider benefits.

On agriculture, Mr Modi said that 20 lakh farmers in Assam had received Rs 7,500 crore in financial assistance so far, and promised enhanced annual support of Rs 11,000 or more for small farmers.

He added that Rs 18,000 crore would be allocated under a special mission to address flood-related losses, a recurring challenge in the state.

He further said that peace had returned to the state, with many former militants laying down arms, and that Assam was now moving beyond its traditional identity.

“There was a time when Assam was known globally only for tea. Now, along with tea, Assam will be known for semiconductor chips,” he said, referring to upcoming technological investments.
