HYDERABAD: Union minister of state for home G. Kishan Reddy has stated that women receptionists are being appointed at all police stations across the country. This is to encourage women not to hesitate in approaching police stations with their problems.

Kishan Reddy made this announcement while inaugurating Business Women Expo-2021 at Hitex in Madhapur on Sunday in the run-up to the International Women's Day on Monday. He presented the COWE Excellence Awards 2020–21 to women who excelled in various fields.

The minister maintained that the tradition of respecting and worshipping women exists only in India. He recalled Upanishads which, he said, say that Gods are found where women are worshipped.

Stating that women are a cosmic force, Kishan Reddy reminded the audience that we pray to women in the form of Go Maata, Bhu Maata and Nadi Maata. He pointed out that before Gods come the name of their spouses, like Sita Rama and Parvati Parameswara. He praised women soldiers who, he pointed out, fought on India’s borders even in freezing cold.

The minister said women constitute 50 per cent of the population in society. They are now standing on an equal footing with men in all walks of life. “God has given all powers to women. So, there is a need to encourage women in the business sector too,” he stated.

In this context, he pointed out that Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister, Pratibha Patil the President, and Sumitra Mahajan and Meera Kumar Speakers of the Lok Sabha.

Kishan Reddy underlined that Prime Minister Narender Modi was giving high priority to women. He recalled PM’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padao programme and providing 10 crore gas cooking connections to poor and rural women.

He asserted that with the promulgation of the Triple Talaq Act, millions of Muslim women have found relief. There are also many laws that favour all women in the society, he added.
