TIRUPATI: Challa Babu, the prime accused in multiple cases related to the attack on police personnel during Telugu Desam party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to the Punganur Assembly constituency, along with 63 other TD cadres, surrendered themselves before Punganur police on Monday.

Challa Babu, who had managed to elude the Chittoor police for a month, is the focal point of investigations into multiple cases connected to the assault on police personnel. During this period, Challa Babu had obtained conditional bail in nearly four other cases from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, while his bail plea was denied in three other cases.

Over the past month, the police have arrested a total of 110 individuals in connection with the cases linked to the attack on police officers. In light of these developments, Challa Babu and the other accused individuals are set to be presented before a magistrate for judicial remand after undergoing mandatory medical examinations.

As tensions run high in Punganur, police authorities have tightened security measures to prevent any untoward incidents. Notably, several prominent TD leaders, including former ministers and senior figures such as Somi Reddy Chandramohan Reddy, Palle Raghunath Reddy, N. Amarnath, M. Sugunamma, Putta Sudhakar Yadav, Pulivarthi Nani, and others, have arrived in Punganur to express their solidarity with the arrested TD leaders.
