HYDERABAD: Condemning the arrest and the judicial custody of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP state leaders staged a silent protest (Mouna Deeksha) on Tuesday at the party state headquarters at Nampally in Hyderabad.

Speaking on the occasion, OBC National Morcha president K. Laxman said the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government was behaving like a dictator and citizens had no right to protest against the anti-people activities of the government. He said people of Telangana were watching these developments and would teach the TRS government an unforgettable lesson. He said the way the police behaved while arresting Sanjay was highly objectionable. The arrest of Sanjay was unnecessary and against democracy. He demanded that cases be withdrawn against Sanjay Kumar.

“The BJP cadres will not be afraid of the use of full police force against them and will fight till the state government is brought down,” Laxman said.

Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh said the arrest of Sanjay Kumar was without any provocation. Booking cases under the Disaster Management Act was an attempt to settle political scores. He said the police had become pawns in the hands of the TRS government. He said problems faced by teachers and government employees due to unscientific transfers should have been addressed by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. The Jagaran Deeksha was a party programme and the way it was foiled was totally unacceptable, the senior party leader said and questioned why no action was taken against the TRS leaders and ministers who participated in rallies and meetings violating the norms of the Covid-19 pandemic.

BJP leader and former film actress Vijayashanti accused the Chief Minister of partisanship and said he was implementing one rule for opposition parties and another for his own party leaders.  She said every BJP activist would bounce back with vigour and sure to teach a lesson to Chandrashekar Rao.
