BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the governance initiatives of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, commending his administration’s efforts in accelerating development, curbing Left-Wing Extremism and positioning the state as a key player in India’s future industrial landscape.
In a detailed letter marking 90th Utkala Dibasa (Foundation Day), the Prime Minister on Wednesday appreciated the state government’s strides over the past two years, noting that decisive governance and people-centric policies have reinforced public confidence. He highlighted the significant progress made in tackling Left-Wing Extremism, stating that sustained efforts by both the Centre and the state have helped restore stability and create an enabling environment for development in previously affected regions.
Emphasising Odisha’s evolving economic profile, Modi underscored its growing importance in strategic sectors such as rare earth minerals and semiconductors. He described the state as a “promising destination” for future-ready manufacturing, pointing to recent policy momentum and approvals that signal increasing investor confidence in high-technology industries.
The Prime Minister linked these developments to a broader transformation underway in Odisha, where improved governance, stronger security conditions and targeted investments are converging to unlock new opportunities. He suggested that the state is steadily transitioning from a resource-rich region to a value-added industrial hub with national significance.
Opening his message with “Jai Jagannath,” Modi extended greetings to the people of Odisha and described the state as a “civilisational treasure,” rich in history, culture and spiritual heritage. He cited iconic landmarks such as the Jagannath Temple, Lingaraj Temple and Konark Sun Temple as enduring symbols of the state’s legacy.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to legendary figures including Buxi Jagabandhu, Veer Surendra Sai and Biju Patnaik, while praising the contributions of Odia people across sectors.
Recalling his long engagement with Odisha, Modi noted his interactions with Odia communities since his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, highlighting cultural parallels between the two states.
He further outlined major developmental initiatives, including record railway allocations, infrastructure expansion, tribal welfare schemes and port-led industrial growth. He also acknowledged Odisha’s progress in women empowerment, industrial investment and sports development, including its selection to host the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
Looking ahead to 2036, when Odisha will complete 100 years of its formation, Modi urged the state to chart an ambitious roadmap for sustained growth. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting Odisha’s journey towards prosperity under the vision of “Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat.”
