Abhisht Charitable Trust on Wednesday organised a 5-km awareness run at Ekamra Kanan Botanical Gardens here to promote greater understanding, acceptance and inclusion of people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

More than 100 participants joined the event, held as part of International ADHD Awareness Month in October. The run was followed by an interactive discussion and a quiz to assess public awareness of the condition. Information leaflets on ADHD were also distributed.

The event was attended by Minati Mohapatra, the first Odia cyclist to receive the Arjuna Award; Arpita Mohapatro, an internationally acclaimed Special Olympics Bharat coach; and Biyot Projna Tripathy, a national award-winning filmmaker and author. Divyang athletes and caregivers of children on the autism spectrum also participated.

Organised by Alee Padhy, founder and chairman of the trust, the initiative received support from young runners of Prasiddhi Poddar’s BAE Run Club. Pool Stop Sports Pvt. Ltd. was the co-sponsor.

ADHD can affect attention, impulse control and executive functioning, including planning, organising and completing tasks. Organisers stressed the importance of early identification, appropriate support and inclusive opportunities to help individuals with ADHD realise their potential.
