Madhya Pradesh: Congress Leader Natarajan Challenges Her RS Nomination Rejection In MP High Court

Talking to reporters at Jabalpur in the state, former Lok Sabha member Ms. Natarajan said that she filed the petition in the high court contesting the decision by the EC to reject her RS nomination within the statutory 45-day deadline.

She hoped that her matter would be taken up for hearing by the court soon.

The Congress leader alleged that the decision by the EC to reject her RS nomination was completely wrong and claimed that her nomination was rejected on the basis of the issue that was never taken up for consideration.

According to her, no FIR was filed against her in a case pending before a court in Telangana.

A summon was issued to her by a court in Telangana in a case related to alleged harassment of a female Congress worker by a party leader in that state.

Her nomination was rejected for concealing the information in her affidavit.

She had earlier moved the supreme court seeking intervention in the matter after her RS nomination was rejected on June nine.

The apex court had however dismissed her plea asking her to move the EC to file a petition.

Biennial elections to three RS seats were held in Madhya Pradesh in June.

The ruling BJP was in a comfortable position to send two candidates to the Upper House whereas the Opposition Congress was in a position to send its lone candidate, Ms. Natarajan, to the RS.

The BJP had however fielded a third candidate at the last moment to force an election for the third seat.

All the three RS candidates of BJP were elected unopposed when the nomination of Ms. Natarajan was rejected.
