Revanth Reddy Condemns Rahul, Priyanka's Detention After PM Residence Protest

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday condemned the detention of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders after they staged a dharna outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence here, alleging that it amounted to an assault on the democratic right to protest.

The entire Congress family and the country stand firmly with the nation's youth, who are demanding accountability from the Central government, he said.

"You can throw us in jail, you can try to suppress us, but you cannot suppress the anger of millions of young Indians fighting for justice and accountability," he said in a post on X.

Reddy had expressed solidarity with Rahul Gandhi before he and other opposition leaders were forcibly removed by the police.

"The Hope of India, Shri @RahulGandhi, is protesting for the future of India, seeking the resignation of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah," Reddy said in an earlier post on X.

He said AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were extending their full support to the youth protesting across the country.

In a dramatic turn of events, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were forcibly removed by the police after staging a dharna outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence here, demanding his resignation.

The surprise sit-in in the high-security zone prompted the government to send Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to persuade the opposition leaders to vacate the area.

Singh held a brief discussion with Rahul, but the talks remained inconclusive, following which he and the home secretary left the protest site.

Soon after, the police forcibly removed and detained Rahul and the other opposition leaders.

"Democracy in India is happening right now," Rahul told reporters as police tried to remove him from the site.
