Kabir Supports Imam Stipend Cancellation
Kabir urged the new government to focus instead on filling vacant posts in state departments.
Berhampore: Humayun Kabir, the lone Amm Janata Unnayan Party legislator who has announced plans to build a replica of the Babri Masjid, backed Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s decision to cancel the honorarium provided to imams and moazzims in West Bengal.
Kabir said, “No money should be granted on religious grounds. I also demand that Durga Puja grants and other temple grants be stopped immediately.”
He alleged that former chief minister Mamata Banerjee “played dirty religious cards to appease both Muslims and Hindus for her political gain.” Kabir urged the new government to focus instead on filling vacant posts in state departments. “I want to give one year’s time to this newly elected government for developmental work and will play a constructive opposition role inside and outside the Assembly,” he said.
Earlier, Kabir met Murshidabad SP Sachin Makkar on the Id‑ul‑Zuha slaughter issue and asked police to ensure proper slaughters in confined areas without disturbing others.
