Berhampore: Trinamul Congress‑led Domkal Panchayat Samiti chairperson Sahana Biswas was ousted in a no‑confidence motion on Monday. For the first time since the fall of the Mamata Banerjee‑led TMC government, dissident Trinamul members joined hands with Congress and CPI(M) to remove the chairperson by 23–3 votes in the 27‑member body.

Sentu Rahman, one of the dissident Trinamul members, said, “We, the majority Trinamul Congress members along with two CPI(M) and two Congress members, jointly voted out the corrupt Domkal Panchayat Samiti chairperson Sahana Biswas by 23–3 votes. One member was absent during voting.”

Biswas, however, rejected the corruption charge. “There is no corruption. The change of the state government and other minor issues are behind my defeat,” she said.

It may be noted that CPM MLA Mustafizur Rahman Rana recently won the Domkal Assembly seat by defeating Trinamul Congress, and the Panchayat Samiti also changed hands a few days later.
