National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s senior diplomatic and international affairs adviser David Morrison held talks in New Delhi on Tuesday, with both sides agreeing to deepen cooperation on terrorism, organised crime, trafficking and cybercrime.

A joint statement issued on Wednesday said the two officials noted the “sustained and constructive” bilateral engagement over the past year and welcomed efforts to advance negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

They also discussed prospects for expanding the bilateral defence relationship.

Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination against transnational organised crime, terrorism and violent extremism, human and drug trafficking, cybercrime and extortion, besides cooperation on the extradition of criminal offenders.

They also discussed establishing structured dialogues on cyber security and economic security.

The two sides reviewed progress under the Security Work Plan concluded in February 2026.

Tuesday’s meeting was part of the ongoing NSA-level bilateral security dialogue. Previous meetings were held in New Delhi in September 2025 and Ottawa in February this year.

India-Canada ties have improved over the past year following a prolonged period of strain over allegations surrounding the killing of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India had rejected the allegations of involvement in the killing.
