Police have initiated forensic examination and investigating the motive behind the incident which is still unclear.
Bhubaneswar : A woman police inspector was found dead inside her official quarters in Odisha's Cuttack city on Saturday morning, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased was identified as Beauty Mohanty, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of the Chauliaganj Police Station. She had recently assumed charge of the police station after serving as the IIC of the local Women's Police Station.
According to police, concern arose after Mohanty failed to respond to repeated phone calls or open the door of her official residence on Saturday morning. Police personnel who went to check on her alerted senior officers after receiving no response. They eventually forced open the door and found her hanging inside the quarters.
She was immediately taken to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where doctors declared her dead.
The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police have initiated an investigation, and senior officers, including the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited the spot.
Speaking to reporters, Cuttack Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amarendra Panda said, “She was in her room on the upper floor of the Chauliaganj Police Station. When police personnel knocked on the door for a long time and received no response, they broke it open and found her hanging. She was immediately shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her parents have been informed. It is a deeply painful incident."
A colleague said Mohanty had completed her official duties on Friday night before retiring to her quarters. “She finished her work as usual and went upstairs to rest. I last saw her around 9.30 pm. She was found hanging the following morning,” the colleague said.
While the motive behind the incident remains unclear, police have not ruled out any angle. Some sources indicated that she may have been facing personal or family-related issues; however, officials said the circumstances leading to her death can only be determined after the investigation and forensic examination are completed.
Known among colleagues as a dedicated and competent officer, Mohanty's sudden death has shocked the police fraternity.
