No ban on journalists from courts: Ashok Menon

Kochi: The Registrar- General of Kerala High Court, Mr Ashok Menon,  on Saturday issued a press note stating that there is no ban on journalists attending and reporting court proceedings. Mr Menon issued the press statement through an email communication.  “In the joint meeting of the Acting Chief Justice and the committee to formulate a code for the press and electronic media in relation to reporting of court proceedings,  it was noted that there is a need to make public the fact that there is no ban imposed on journalists,” the statement said.  

He also stated that the committee will look into the issue of framing guidelines to provide prompt and easy access for the journalists to judgments and orders which are pronounced and issued. “Taking into account the requirements to insulate the chamber and office of each judge and attached staff,  the individual judges will be at liberty to decline access to any person to their chambers and the office of private secretaries and personal assistants,” the  press release said.
