33 Questions to Be Asked in Census 2027 Phase I
The questionnaire for Phase II, covering Population Enumeration, will be notified separately in due course
NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday issued a gazette notification detailing the questionnaire for Phase I of the Census of India 2027, the House-listing and Housing Census. The questionnaire for Phase II, covering Population Enumeration, will be notified separately in due course.
According to the notification issued by the Union home ministry through the Office of the Registrar General of India, citizens will be asked 33 questions during the House-listing and Housing Census.
The questionnaire includes queries on the availability of household assets such as landline telephones, internet connections, basic mobile phones or smartphones, bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, cars, jeeps or vans.
Households will also be asked about the cereals they consume, sources of drinking water and lighting, access to toilets and the type of toilets used, wastewater outlets, availability of bathing facilities, kitchens and LPG or PNG connections, the main fuel used for cooking, and the presence of radio sets, transistors and television sets.
In addition, information will be collected on the predominant materials used for the floor, walls and roof of the house, the condition of the dwelling, the number of household members, whether the head of the household is a woman or belongs to the SC or ST categories, the number of rooms exclusively in the household’s possession, and the number of married couples living in the household.
The government had informed Parliament in December last year that Census 2027 would be conducted in two phases, Phase I between April and September 2026, and Phase II in February 2027.
