Manaveeyam Theruvidam distributes rice to Ockhi victims

Collective of cultural activists visits affected areas as part of their Snenasparsam programme.

Thiruvananthapuram: Manaveeyam Theruvidam, a collective of cultural activists, distributed 1,000 kg rice and green gram  to the Ockhi-affected areas  of the city as part of their Snehasparsam programme. Aksharamonline, an onli-ne literary magazine, also extended support for the mission called ‘Ariyum Payarum — Manaveeyam Vandi’. Dewaswom and cooperation minister Kadakampally Surendran was present on the occasion. “Although the government  is doing everything possible to help Ockhi victims,  the social missions  by  the public is needed to bring back the shores to normality,” he stated.

The rice distribution at Kottappuram, Vizhinjam,  was under the guidance of KTDC chairman M. Vijayakumar. The fund for the mission was mobilised by the members of Theruvidam. The venture also marked the kickstart of the Snehasparsam.It  plans  to extend educational assistance for the children in the affected shores and counsel them and the families. Manaveeyam Theruvidam is a group of socio-cultural activists which functions from Manaveeyam Veedhi’s  street library. The collective   coordinates various cultural programmes at Manave-eyam Veedhi. The Ockhi mission was coordinated by G.L. Arun Gopi with the participation of  cultural activists, including Beena Albert, Nitin Viswan, Kaalu, Mohan Jithu and  Adv Shobhana  V.P. George.
