THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cops are still in the dark about people flying drone at night over strategic places including their headquarters in the city.

They have summoned officials of a Mumbai-based firm assigned by Coastal Rail Corridor who conducted an aerial survey for questioning.

To solve the mystery, ADGP Manoj Abraham launched a mission codenamed Operation Udan targeting drones used by event management companies. After the police interrogated the private company officials, they have concluded that they are not the culprits.

Police chief Loknath Behera said the investigation was on, but added it could be a toy.

On Monday, a drone appeared over the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple and the police headquarters, after the police began a probe into a drone flying last week in Kovalam and formed a special investigation team.  An investigation officer told reporters that initially, they were under the impression that the drone flying was for the coastal railway.

“The drone they were having was much bigger than what had flown in the sky on the capital city,” he said.

"But there is a statement from them that a drone which belonged to them had been missing while it was operational in Nemom area. We are also investigating where someone is trying to misuse it or not," he said.

Investigators feel someone has been controlling the direction of the drone as it's seen at various locations on different days, but there is nothing to fear as it can also be a toy drone.

Air Force and Indian Space Research Organisation support ‘Operation Udan’.
