20,000 students get yet another chance with Neet-2

Private medical college managements say MCI has taken over their role in admissions.

Hyderabad: Less than a week is left for Neet-2, scheduled for July 24. While both Telugu states have held their respective Eamcets for admission to the convener’s quota in medical and dental colleges, students wishing to join the management quota in private medical and dental colleges will have to write the test.

While exact numbers are not available, experts say 20,000 candidates will appear for Neet from Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh. The exam will be held in four centres – Hyderabad, Warangal, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

Although there are close to 12 private medical colleges each in the two states, students have the option of getting admissions in private colleges in other states as well, under the management quota.

According to experts, medical aspirants from TS and AP, apart from colleges in the state also prefer seats in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra etc., and Neet-2 will offer them a chance.

The CBSE, which is conducting the entrance exam, will be declaring the results (phase 1 and 2) on August 17.

TS Medical and Dental Colleges Association president C. Lakshmi Nara-simha Rao said that their role had become nil, now that the Medical Council of India was taking care of admissions in all private medical colleges in the country.
