30 polling stations face Maoist threat in Malappuram

The authorities have finalised extensive security plans for the district.

Eight armed policemen will be deployed in each critical location facing Maoist threat and four each at other places.

Malappuram: The Election Commission has identified 30 polling stations in Malappuram facing Maoist threat.   It has listed  1,331 places in the district as ‘critical’ which were earlier termed as sensitive. The authorities have finalised extensive security plans for  the district.

Eight armed policemen will be deployed in each critical location facing Maoist threat and four  each at other places.  A total of 4,877 policemen will be on duty  under the district police chief K. Vijayan.

They include  paramilitary forces and a special police wing comprising ex-servicemen and senior NCC cadets. Each police station  will have two full-time election patrolling wings.
