HYDERABAD: An anonymous call threatening to blast Income Tax (I-T) offices in the city triggered panic among I-T employees Monday afternoon. As soon as the call was received, employees working at Income Tax Towers, Masab Tank, Ayakar Bhavan, Basheerbagh and other locations associated with the department, were evacuated from their respective offices and searches were conducted at all premises. It eventually turned out to be a hoax call.

Employees waited as multidisciplinary teams of city and state police, including the bomb and dog squads carried out searches.

“We thought that the call could be a fake but did not want to take any chances. Works at all offices resumed after the call was found to be a hoax,” an official said.

DCP Central Zone, Hyderabad city, M. Venkateswarlu said, “A case has been registered and we are in the process of identifying the caller.”
