Delhi: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has transferred post haste a senior officer who allegedly threw scalding hot water on an orderly who served it to him, causing injuries to the subordinate’s face and chest.

The incident is still being investigated, but the CRPF HQ, in its transfer order served on deputy inspector general (DIG) D K Tripathi on Friday, extended to him "best wishes” for a “successful tenure” in his new assignment in the Manipur and Nagaland sector.

The incident took place early this month at the CRPF recruit training centre in Bihar's Rajgir district. The DIG was staying at the officers' mess and ordered warm water to drink. Constable Amol Kharat served it to him in a thermos flask. Tripathi burnt his mouth drinking it, and summoned Kharat for a scolding. An altercation ensued between the two and the DIG allegedly threw the water on the jawan's face.

The paramilitary force initially said prima facie the incident seemed to be an "accident"; the officer did not intend to throw hot water on the jawan but had spilled it on him during the altercation.

A preliminary report on the incident recommended a full probe, sources said.

When asked why the transfer order extended good wishes to the accused officer, sources said it was a “standard format for issuing transfer and posting orders”.

DIG Tripathi told PTI that it would not be proper on his part to comment on the story but described it as "one-sided" all the same.
