Mumbai: Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani’s Provident Fund (PF) certificate from her burger joint days will be auctioned and the proceeds will be given to women artisans.

Irani, who also holds the portfolio of Women and Child Development, used to work at McDonald’s before her acting career took off, Hindustan Times reported.

This was during her struggling days before she got fame from her much celebrated character of ‘Tulsi’ in the daily soap ‘Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.

Irani, however, did not withdraw her PF earnings from her employment at the fast food joint.

A member of the Mumbai-based Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council found Irani’s PF certificate under her maiden name.

The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council will be conducting the auction. “We will look at a cluster of women whose work needs to find takers and should be highlighted,” the newspaper report cited a senior ministry official as saying.
