BHOPAL: Hundreds of farmers from Narmadapuram on Wednesday arrived in Bhopal to gherao chief minister Mohan Yadav’s official bungalow here demanding procurement of moong by the state government at the minimum support price.

Amid announcement by the agitating farmers to turn the area near the chief minister’s official residence at the Shamla Hills here the Jantar Mantar of Delhi by continuing their stir till the government yielded to their demands, Mr. Yadav constituted a three-member ministerial committee in the morning to begin talks with them.

The committee comprising state agriculture minister Indel Singh Kansana, state cooperation minister Visvas Sarang and minister of state for welfare of backward classes Krishna Gaur started discussion with a 16-member delegation of the farmers on their issues in the evening.

The meeting was going on till the last report came.

The other key demand of the farmers is the withdrawal of the e-token system for procurement of grains by the government.

The farmers started from Narmadapuram, around 100 km from here, two days ago along with beds and cooking materials to start an indefinite stir in front of the chief minister’s official bungalow here till their demands are met.

The agitating farmers broke the barricades erected at several places in Bhopal city and trooped towards the Shyamla Hills to gherao the chief minister’s official residence.

Police tried to stop them at some places leading to heckling between them.

However, none from either side was injured in the incident.

While some agitating farmers were seen staging semi-nude demonstrations, some others were seen performing ‘havan’ praying wisdom for the government.

The farmers were also seen preparing lunch on the road.
