94,083 Farmers Found Ineligible For Maharashtra Loan Waiver Scheme

MUMBAI: As many as 94,083 farmers have been found ineligible for Maharashtra's flagship Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana (PAHSKY)-2026, aimed at providing farm loan waiver benefits to eligible cultivators across the state. The data was shared with the Maharashtra Cooperation Department by the Income Tax Department, which has verified the details of around 32 lakh farmers. The exercise is expected to help the state government save approximately Rs 1,881.66 crore.
So far, the Cooperation Department has issued the list of around 17 lakh farmers. Of these, approximately 6 lakh farmers have been verified, while the verification process for the remaining beneficiaries is underway. The farm loan waiver benefits are expected to be credited directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers within the next five days, following completion of the required verification and authentication process.

A senior official said that the Cooperation department has sent 31,64,028 farmers data with the Income-Tax department to identify the income tax payees. “Recently, we have received a list of 94,083 farmers who have been flagged by the Income-tax department for not being eligible for the benefits of farm loan waiver scheme. It will help the state government to save around Rs Rs 1,881.66 crore from its treasury,” the senior official said.
Official data shows that of the eligible beneficiaries, about 32 lakhs are loan defaulters, while nearly 24 lakhs are regular loan-repaying eligible for incentives of Rs 50000. Around 2.90 lakh farmers have outstanding loans exceeding Rs 2 lakh. These farmers have been given a deadline until March 31, 2027, to repay the amount above the Rs 2 lakh waiver limit, officials said.
He also said that the cooperation department will spend around Rs 5 crore for publicity of the PAHSKY-2026.
“Once the Aadhar authentication of the farmers of the first list is done, we will immediately release the benefits under the PAHSKY-2026 to the farmers' bank accounts. Therefore, we appeal to the farmers to do the Aadhar authentication as soon as possible,” Pravin Darade, Principal Secretary of the Cooperation department told this newspaper.
