BHOPAL: Barely 48 hours after prime minister Narendra Modi’ call for judicious consumption of fuel in view of the ongoing Iran war, a senior BJP leader flaunted his influence by travelling from Ujjain to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh in a massive convoy of 50 cars, including SUVs, along with his supporters to take charge as head of a state-owned corporation here on Tuesday.
Soubhagya Singh Thakur travelled to Bhopal from Ujjain in a 50-car convoy along with his supporters to take charge of the post of chairman of Madhya Pradesh Text Book Corporation here.
A video showing his travel, being interrupted by his supporters along the highway from Ujjain to Bhopal several times to greet him with garlands, has gone viral on social media.
The BJP leader has shown little regard to the concern by PM Mr. Modi over the looming fuel and economic crisis in view of the ongoing Iran war and paid no heed to his advice for fuel conservation by travelling in a massive convoy of 50 cars all the way from Ujjain to Bhopal to assume charge as head of the state undertaking, a senior Congress leader lamented.
Madhya Pradesh energy minister Pradyumna Singh Tomar however chose to go to the secretariat to attend his office by a two-wheeler electric vehicle by heeding to Mr. Modi’s call for minimizing fuel consumption.
He was seen pillion riding in a two-wheeler to go to the state secretariat on Tuesday.
Setting an example for the common man, Justice Dwarka Dhish Bansal of Madhya Pradesh high court has decided to cycle to the court to save fuel consumption in the wake of the call by Mr. Modi.
In a video, which caught him cycling to the high court, he was heard saying that “Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has appealed to save fuel among other things. Keeping it in mind, I felt I should cycle to the High Court and give a message to the common man to use a cycle to commute whenever possible for shorter distances of one-two kms”.
