Shyama Prasad Choudhury to head income tax dept in Telangana, AP

During his tenure as chief commissioner I-T, a robust growth of 25 per cent of income-tax was witnessed.

Hyderabad: Chief income-tax commissioner Shyama Prasad Choudhury, has been elevated to the rank of ‘Principal Chief Commissioner’ and is the new head of the I-T department for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The ministry of finance – department of revenue on August 29 approved the promotion of 16 IRS officers, including Mr Choudhury and elevated him to the grade of Principal Chief Commissioner of IT and directed them to assume charge on the day of promotion.

The 1983 batch Indian Revenue Officer earlier held the post of Chief Commissioner of I-T Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam.

Shyama an accomplished writer I-T departments for both the states  had collected close to Rs 50,000 cr for the financial year 2017-18. With him at the helm, the Income-Tax Department in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is expected to collect Rs 60,845  crore in 2018-19. Mr Choudhury, apart from being an efficient officer, is an excellent writer who has written many short stories, which have won accolades in  premier literary circles.
