Hyderabad: Warangal is ahead of Karimnagar in completing work on the Smart City project, but both cities are lagging behind.

Both cities have set up special purpose vehicles as mandated, but Warangal has delegated powers to it. Warangal has appointed a project management consultant but Karimnagar has not. In all smart cities, the projects should be implemented under Public Private Partnership, both cities are still in the selection process only.

The Centre provides Rs 500 crore over the mission period for each city and an equal amount has to be mobilised by state. For Warangal, the Centre has released Rs 90 crore as project fund but the state has to release its share. For Karimnagar, the Centre has not yet released any funds.
