TIRUPATI: Nellore district joint collector (Health) Ganesh Kumar has served a notice to ayurvedic concoction maker Bonigi Anandaiah, asking him to show permissions he has from authorities concerned for preparing and distributing formulations claimed to prevent the Omicron version of Coronavirus.

About the same time, people of Krishnapatnam gram panchayat on Tuesday unanimously resolved not to support Anandaiah in his preparation and distribution of herbal concoction. Panchayat authorities also decided not to provide any permission for distribution of Anandaiah’s herbal medicine. They fear it may lead to crowds in the village, as a large number of people from various parts of the country will start making a beeline for Krishnapatnam. This might result in Covid cases rising in the village.

In the notice served on Tuesday, the joint collector stated that district administration has come to know through media about Anandaiah’s new preventive medication for Omicron. He also recalled the concoction maker’s statements that he would cure the infection within 48 hours.

Making clear that publicising any concoction through any media platform without valid permission is an offence under Section 33 of Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940, Ganesh Kumar asked Anandaiah to reveal whether he had permissions from Commissioner-Ayush or other competent authorities to distribute the herbal medicine.

The joint collector warned in his notice: “We will initiate action under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954 and the Disaster Management Act 2005, if you fail to exhibit permissions within a week.”
