Hyderabad: Redundant plastic cans and tubs disposed by households have been turned into dustbins and are being provided to government schools by the GHMC.

This initiative is part of the solid waste management programme that the corporation has initiated.

The city generates over 4000 metric tons of mixed waste per day, out of which 50 per cent is non biodegradable with a large per cent being thick plastic in the form of cans, buckets, tubs and other household plastic products.

The idea of recycling them as dust bins is a smart move by GHMC, say environmentalists.
