Bengaluru: Replying to allegations made by Padmanabha Reddy, the leader of opposition in the BBMP on Wednesday, ruling party leader M. Shivaraj pointed out that out of Rs 10,132 crore, nearly Rs 4,000 crores have been spent for the various development works in the city.

Shivaraj said that Rs 487 crore spent towards salaries and Rs 479 crore towards recovering mortgaged properties of BBMP.

He pointed out that nearly 48 percent of the budget (Rs 4,992 crore) has been spent. He further added that during the tenure of chief minister Siddaramaiah he granted Rs 7,500 crore for the city and the present chief minister H.D. Kumarswamy in the recent Assembly session at Belagavi has granted Rs 8,300 crore for the city.

He said that Rs 1,053 crore has been reserved for ward level works. Also sharing the grants given to the wards,  Shivaraj claimed that wards represented by BJP members wards were allocated more funds, when compared with those represented by Congress members.

“We have released funds without any partiality. Leader of opposition Padmanabha Reddy has to check facts before he speaks,” Shivaraj said. He pointed out that it was during the tenure of BJP the many properties of the BBMP were mortgaged and the Congress-led coalition had to bring it back.

However, Reddy stuck to his guns and maintained that only 5 per cent works have been executed and that he stands by his statistics.

Reddy further said that under the Smart City project, the central government has released Rs 100 crore, while the state government is yet to release any funds.
