Kerala: Fuel price hike hits flood victims hard

According to the retail dealers the price of petrol and diesel went up by Rs 2.38 per litre and Rs 2.11 per litre respectively in July-August.

Kochi: The price of petrol and diesel has moved up in most days in August adding to the agony of the people hit by the worst flood in the state. According to the retail dealers the price of petrol and diesel went up by Rs 2.38 per litre and Rs 2.11 per litre respectively in July-August.

The price on Monday went up by 810.15 for petrol and 810.13 for diesel. The price of one litre petrol in Thiruvanathapuram was Rs 81.04 while diesel 8174.43 per litre. In Kochi petrol was at 8179.92 while diesel 8173.27 per litre. In Kozhikode the price was '80.20 for petrol and 8173.40 for diesel per litre.

The daily fluctuation in petrol and diesel prices was suspended during the nationwide truckers strike from July 20-28. The prices however started moving up after July 28 and the upward spiral continued in most days in August, according Hamza Eerikkunnan, treasurer of Bus Operators Federation.
