BENGALURU: You can buy a kilo of apple for Rs 100, but not a bunch of coriander. Price of a bunch of coriander leaves, which was sold for Rs 10-20, has now touched Rs 100 in the city.

A kilo of coriander leaves was sold at Rs 295 a kilo at the Horticulture Producer’s Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society Limited (HOPCOMS) as per its tariff on June 26.

As coriander leaves are an integral part of almost all cuisines, the steep rise in the prices has worried people.

Earlier a bunch of coriander was sold at not more than Rs 10 at K.R. Market, but last week it touched Rs 30 and now it has crossed Rs 100.

We wonder whether it will rise even further, said Ms Meena, a homemaker.

Traders attribute the steep rise in coriander leaves price to drastic fall in the supply. A trader doing his business at K.R. Market said that there shortage of supply of coriander heading to the city from Anekal, Hoskote, Chikkaballapur, Kolar and other regions.

They said that the recent rains have damaged the crops and are expecting the price to drop in the coming days.
