Two more Omicron cases in Andhra Pradesh, tally rises to six

The two new cases were reported from Anantapuram and Prakasam districts

VIJAYAWADA: Cases of Omicron infections are slowly increasing in Andhra Pradesh, with the registration of two new cases on Sunday, taking the total to six. So far, 67 international travelers and 12 contacts were found Covid Positive and the samples were sent for genome sequencing.

Director of public health, Dr Hymavathi said a 48-year-old male traveler hailing from Prakasam district came from South Africa to Hyderabad on December 16 and then went to Ongole. Samples of the traveler were collected on December 19 and it turned out to be a C-positive case on December 20.

Samples were sent to CCMB, Hyderabad for genome sequencing and the result came as ‘Omicron Positive’ on December 25. The patient is healthy and in quarantine. All his primary and secondary contacts were tested and found negative.

Dr. Hymavathi said that in the second case, a 51-year-old male from Anantapur came from the UK to Bangalore airport on December 18. His samples were collected on December 20 at Anantapur and an RT-PCR test found him C-positive on December 21. The samples were referred to CCMB, Hyderabad for genome sequencing and result showed ‘Omicron positive’ on December 25. He is healthy and in quarantine. All his primary and secondary contacts were tested and found negative.

Dr. Hymavathi said so far 67 international travelers and 12 contacts were found C-Positive and all the samples were sent for genome sequencing.

Responding to the increasing worries among the masses about the swift spread of Omicron, she advised precautions and the following of norms like social distancing, wearing of mask and regular washing of hands to be on the safe side.
