HYDERABAD: With a strong belief that art has the ability to inspire people, a unique typographical structure ‘Love Hyderabad’, a symbol to embody the spirit of the city, was installed on Tank Bund on Friday.

Designed by artist Hitesh Malaviya (Rocky), in collaboration with Hanif Kureshi, ‘Love Hyderabad’ incorporates the transliteration of love in Devanagari, written in red letters, on a white base that reads ‘Hyderabad’.

“This icon cuts across all demographics and language barriers. The heart is a universal symbol of love, used by everyone, from the Roadside Romeo to Milton Glaser, to represent love.

“The idea behind this work is to incorporate the love symbol (heart) into Devanagari script. Instead of the Latin script, the transliteration of love in Devanagari adds a multilingual, fun aspect which imbibes elements from our Hinglish speaking generation and popular culture,” the designer said.

Speaking at the unveiling of the structure, B.V. Papa Rao, trustee at Art@Telangana, said, “The first international Street Art Festival here garnered accolades. The installation of this typo sculpture at Tank Bund will not only mark a successful end of the 1st public art festival, but will also lay the foundation for the beginning of public aesthetic movement for Hyderabad.”

“The sculpture will be an added attraction to the city and tourists to the Tank Bund will definitely take selfies at this spot,” Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, K.T. Rama Rao said.
