Hyderabad gears up for grand Navaratri festivities

Hyderabad: The city is gearing up for grand Navaratri  festivities from Monday. Temples have been decked up and pandals are being set up to install idols of the goddess.

Amid many institutions and colleges joining the festivities before closing for Navaratri, the management and students of St Joseph's Degree and PG College organised Bathukamma and dandiya events. Fr D. Sunder Reddy, principal, said, “such events will bind everyone with the secular spirit.”

Hyderabad Bengali Samithi, which will be celebrating their 81st Durga Puja, received the Goddess Durga’s idol on Sunday in traditional manner, according to Biswajit Mukherjee. He said the Navaratri and Durga Puja celebrations would be organised at NTR Stadium.

All arrangements have been completed at the Sri Yellamma Pochamma Devalayam, the Balkampet Yellamma temple. Executive officer S. Annapurna, said, “Bathukamma programmes have been arranged for October 2, which have a gathering of more than 3, 000 women devotees.”

K. Venkatesh, former chairman, Simhavahini Sri Mahankali Devalayam, Lal darwazs said “most of the devotees from Old City will go to this temple. All its preparations for a grand celebration have been completed.”
