Hyderabad: Locals who went with their children to enjoy an evening out in the Mir Alam Theme Park, which was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Dr. S.K. Joshi on Saturday, were shocked to found out that it would not be open to the public for five more days.

The decision of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation even surprised municipal administration and urban development principal secretary Arvind Kumar when a neitizen brought it to his notice on Twitter.

Twitter user Riyaz posted on his handle: “Visited Mir Alam Park today.... watchman told park is closed and may take more 4-5 days to get open for public. Came with lot of expectations.... many people are coming and going back. Anyways I will visit it again on next weekend...(sic)”

Reacting to his tweet, Mr Arvind Kumar said he was surprised and directed GHMC authorities to check and resolve the issue. When this correspondent tried to reach corporation officials, they refused to comment.

Mr Joshi inaugurated the 6.5-acre park on Saturday. In the first phase, 6.15 acres of area along the Mir Alam tank on the Chintalmet side was developed into a garden. Besides, a 6.8-km bund with an average width of  8 metres leaves open the option of creating a walking track with greenery on either side.
