Bengaluru: Recent deaths in the City due to electrocution has created panic among the people and brought the issue of dangers caused by high tension wires that pass close to buildings and houses.

A survey is being carried out by Bescom to find out the number of structures constructed close to high tension wire.

The survey carried out with the assistance of KPTCL and BBMP found that around 7,500 structures had come up where the 66 kv high tension wires pass close by, out of which 2,500 notices had been slapped against the building owners.

The Bescom has also asked BBMP to serve notices to the remaining building owners so that appropriate action is taken.

 “We have found around 7,500 houses constructed close to the 66 kv high tension wires without following the stipulated rules of maintaining a gap of 4 meter in height and 2.3 meter in width. We also found that 110 under construction buildings and houses were violating the norms and we have directed the BBMP officials to ensure that the construction activity of such buildings or houses is stopped and necessary action is taken, ” a senior Bescom official said.

The officer added, “ We are continuing to identify buildings and houses that have violated the norm by constructing structures close to high tension wires and now it is the duty of the BBMP of taking further action. It is they who will have to ensure that the occupants are vacated and the building should be demolished, but we do not know what action will be taken.”

When checked with BBMP officials, they said the process of issuing notices to the building owners is going on and also there will be a meeting held with the senior officers from BBMP, KPTCL and Bescom to decide on 0the action to be taken against violators.
