Karimnagar: Three persons sustained grievous injuries while 20 suffered minor injuries in a major collision involving an RTC bus and three lorries at Durshed village on Rajiv National Highway in Karimnagar district on Friday.

According to assistant commissioner of police Vijay Sarathi, when the front tyre of a lorry proceeding to Karimnagar burst, an RTC Indra bus that was just behind rammed into the lorry. It was hit by two more lorries that were behind the bus.

The bus, belonging to Mancherial bus depot, was going to Karim-nagar with 29 passengers. Three of them were seriously injured by the impact while 20 others had minor injuries. All the injured were shifted to Karim-nagar government hospital in 108, he said.

Durshed deputy sarpanch S. Sampath, who witnessed the incident along with others, tried to rescue the bus passengers stuck in the vehicle by breaking the window glass panes.

The passengers alleged that the accident occurred due to the temporary driver’s lack of experience and his inability to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

They said that the bus rammed into the lorry because of the suddenness of applying the brakes and that resulted in a pile-up.
